Federer rolls into fourth round at Miami Open (Yahoo Sports)

Roger Federer took a look around as he entered the stadium court at the Miami Open, already feeling the energy of the crowd. Federer advanced to the fourth round at Key Biscayne on Monday, the No. 4 seed beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4 on Monday. Federer, who was facing the 29th-seeded del Potro for the first time since 2013, never lost serve and improved to 15-1 this year.

When it comes to tournament matchups, Key Biscayne has fallen behind. A stalled plan to upgrade the complex has caused the Miami Open to decline in prestige, raising doubts about its future. ''When I first arrived here, it was always the biggest tournament after the Grand Slams,'' said retiring tour veteran Tommy Haas, who played in the event for the final time last week.

The oldest player in the women's draw at the Miami Open, Venus Williams is looking forward to the next round. Williams earned her latest win in this season of resurgence Sunday, beating qualifier Patricia Maria Tig 6-3, 6-0 to reach the fourth round. Seeded 11th and appearing in the event for the 18th time, Williams is a threat to win her fourth Key Biscayne title - and her first since 2001.

PARIS (AP) -- Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori are the only top 10 players not to feature in the list of players for the Monte Carlo Masters, the first big clay-court tournament of the season.

An iguana caused quite a racket during a professional tennis match at the Miami Open, perching atop a scoreboard and then scurrying across the court. The rather large reptile showed up at Court 1 midway through the final set of Jiri Vesely's 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tommy Haas on Wednesday, delaying play for several minutes. At one point, the unpaid spectator climbed down the scoreboard and ran across the court before winding up on top of another scoreboard.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is interested in moving the Miami Open tennis tournament to the team's stadium complex, and there have been discussions regarding his proposal, a person familiar with the talks said Sunday. The person confirmed the discussions to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the tournament and Dolphins have not commented. The person said Ross wouldn't buy the tournament but would invest in a tennis center on stadium grounds because he wants to keep the event in South Florida.

Roger Federer has a reputation as one of the nicest pro athletes among his fellow tennis players and fans. When Stan Wawrinka got emotional in his post-match comments to the crowd after losing the BNP Paribas Open final, Federer sat courtside laughing. ''I would like to congratulate Roger,'' Wawrinka said, glancing at his countryman and friend.
